The Transportation Museum is located on the site of what was once the Southern Railway Company's largest steam repair facility. Sitting exactly half-way between Atlanta and Washington DC, this site saw a great deal of activity in years past. The giant building shown in this photograph was known as the "back shops." Steam locomotives were overhauled here as necessary. Wise words ("Be Careful") are stenciled in gigantic letters for all to see and obey.
