Chinqua Penn Plantation

Photo # 17 of 28

A stone fireplace is all that remains of what was once a 3-story windmill, built with the intention of pumping water. The Penns opened the windmill with a large party; more than 250 guests came to the celebration and danced all night. In 1942, the structure was destroyed by fire, caused by a short-circuit from a remote radio-record player. Ironically, the windmill never actually turned its wings.
